Oshun, African Yoruba Goddess

Oshun is the African Yoruba Goddess of love, sweet waters and is the patroness of women. She is a healer of the sick, a bringer of song, music, and dance, as well as prosperity and fertility. Oshun taught the Yoruba agriculture, culture, and mysticism. She also taught them the art of divination using cowrie shells and the songs, chants, and meditations taught to her by her father Obatala, the first of the Orisha.

This copper-colored candle is embedded with violet flowers, kunzite crystals, and a cowrie shell. The scent is reminiscent of rainwater and the floral aromas of Africa. The color copper is associated with energy and healing. Kunzite awakens the heart chakra, radiates peace, dispels negativity, and protects one’s aura from unwanted energies. Cowrie shells represented the divine mother Goddess and prosperity. Violet flowers are associated with love and healing.

Meditation: Goddess of sweet waters and love, patroness of women and Witches, help me love myself so that I can find the joy and pleasure in life.

Candle magic illuminates your intention and releases it out into the universe.

My candles are infused with herbs, crystals, and a meditation script to help you focus your energy. A simple spell to use with this candle is to create a quiet, comfortable, and safe space. Visualize your intention and read the meditation as you light the candle. Stare at the flame and continue to send your intent into the light. You can sit in front of it for as long as you like. When ready, close your candle ritual with words of gratitude and a positive affirmation. Let your candle burn as much as needed, making sure you extinguish it before you leave.

Please remember that while powerful, candle magic and intention do not manifest immediate results. Whatever magical ceremony or ritual you decide to perform is simply the messenger whose purpose is to deliver your goals into the arms of the universe—nothing more. You still have to show the cosmos that you are willing to do the work needed to reach your goal.

Candle symbology

A candle embodies the five elements: earth, water, air, fire, and spirit. The wick is earth and keeps the flame constant. The wax, which transforms from a solid to a liquid and then to gas, emulates water’s transmutation properties. Oxygen, archetypal of air, is crucial for keeping the flame lit. The flame is a direct connection to fire, the element of transformation, and rebirth. The fifth element, spirit, is within us and manifests when our intention is placed into the candle and infuses it with our soul.
